- What can I build with Mottle?
- Mottle allows you to create various knowledge chatbots, including FAQ bots, customer support bots, topic experts, or even bots that mimic you answering questions from your journal.
- What are the conditions of the free account?
- The free account lets you create a bot with up to 500 snippets, with one snippet approximately equal to 450 OpenAI “tokens” (around 1,800 English characters). Bots unused for seven days will be automatically deleted.
- Do I need an OpenAI API Key?
- No, it’s not required, but you have the option to provide one, and some advanced features may necessitate it.
- Will OpenAI see my documents?
- Yes, OpenAI has access to the documents you upload to Mottle, as their APIs are used to generate bot responses.
- What is OpenAI’s data retention policy?
- As of March 2023, OpenAI won’t use data sent via the API for training and will delete query data after 30 days. Check OpenAI’s website for the latest information.
- Should I upload confidential documents to Mottle?
- You can, but it’s at your own risk. Note that your documents will be stored on Mottle’s servers (Google Cloud & Pinecone) and shared with OpenAI.

- What is a “snippet”?
- A snippet is a text piece used to train your bot. Currently, a snippet can contain up to 450 OpenAI “tokens,” or approximately 1,800 characters of English text.
- Can I delete my bot after testing?
- Yes, you can choose to delete your bot as needed on the Settings page, automatically creating a new blank bot for you.
